Shifra is from Silver Spring, Maryland. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 2024 with dual bachelor’s degrees in journalism and environmental science and policy. She’s an alum of the Diamondback, the student newspaper at UMD, and the Dow Jones News Fund program, through which she was a data reporting intern at The Connecticut Mirror and an editing intern at Stars and Stripes. She’s also reported for The Frederick News-Post and the University of Maryland’s Howard Center for Investigative Journalism.
