Dear New Yorkers,

Money isn’t everything. But it pays for a lot of important things, especially in the last few weeks of a campaign.

Let’s check in on where the mayoral candidates stand in the cash race.

The latest campaign filings dropped late Friday into Saturday morning, revealing the most recent hauls, but also who crossed the threshold to qualify for public matching funds and to appear in some debates.

As my colleague Greg Smith reported, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams saw a surge in donations that put her in position to likely obtain public money and count as a “leading contender” alongside former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Comptroller Brad Lander, Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani and state Senator Zellnor Myrie before the June 1 cut.

The leading contenders will appear in the second and final debate on June 12, co-sponsored by THE CITY, Gothamist/WNYC and NY1, either by hitting at least 5% in certain polls or by raising and spending at least $2.37 million.

Greg’s story has more nuggets from the filings, including the bundlers raising big money for Cuomo.

And one programming note: No, today is not Thursday. We’ll be sending the Ranked Choices newsletter out on Tuesdays from now until the primary!

  • The Teamsters are split in the comptroller race.
  • Mamdani’s free bus plan could cost more than his campaign is sharing and would require Gov. Kathy Hochul to raise taxes on the richest New Yorkers.

Your Election Questions, Answered

Reader Virginia P. asked: When will the sample ballots be available on Vote NYC?

Answer: The city Board of Elections told us sample ballots on vote.nyc would be completed this past weekend — and it appears they kept their word!

When our election team checked their own sample ballots Monday night, they showed the June primary candidates. To check your own, visit the BOE’s poll site locator, type in your address, hit “Look Up,” then click on the button on the next page that says “View Sample Ballot.” Click that and all the primary candidates in your election district should appear.
